Making their base in the north snowy mountains, these Neanderthals have become fierce killers with a taste for human flesh. As they die out from disease, the Udam have recently started to move away from the comfort of their caverns, wreaking havoc on enemy tribes. Ull, their brutal leader, can’t just sit back while his tribespeople perish. He declares war on those who encroach on his land and sets out to find a better future for his people.

The Udam use poison to block access to their homeland and valuables. They also use it in a poison bomb that eats away at your health. Fortunately, you also get a chance to use it on your enemies—causing them to attack each other. You can also counter their poison attacks by eating an Antidote.

Archer

Role: Primal Assaulter

HP: Medium

Damage: Low

Attack Frequency: Medium

Range: Medium/Long

Movement Speed: Medium

Special: -

Elite Characteristics: Breakable Helmet

Archers are equipped with a bow, but their range is not that great. They shoot from cover, so getting a shot on them can be tough, but it’s nothing a quick beast or lobbed bomb can’t take care of.

Chieftain

Role: Anti-Beast Tank

HP: Very High

Damage: Very High

Attack Frequency: Slow

Range: Melee

Movement Speed: Slow/Charge

Special: Elite only, Takedown requires Heavy Takedown skill

Elite Characteristics: Indestructible Helmet, Roar Charge

The powerful Chieftain takes and dishes out a lot of damage. In order to perform a takedown on him, you must purchase the Heavy Takedown skill. Outside of the Commander and Leader, these guys are the strongest members of the tribe with the ability to knock you down. Take them out early with stealth or your Owl. They do have the easiest time against your beast, so be sure to help when sending your companion after the foe. A Bear is a good match for these guys, allowing you to fight from longer range while it draws the enemy’s focus. Chieftains are melee fighters, but they do have the ability to use throwables.

Hunter

Role: Stealth

HP: Low

Damage: Low

Attack Frequency: Medium

Range: Medium/Long

Movement Speed: Medium

Special: Poison Arrows

Elite Characteristics: Breakable Helmet

Hunters are much like Archers, but they are equipped with long-range bows and poison arrows—making them a much bigger threat. They tend to hide, so lob a sting bomb or fire bomb their way to drive them out. With their low health, they go down fairly easy, but if left standing too long, they pick away at your health from afar. If you get close, the Hunter pulls out his knife and takes a swing.

Scourge

Role: Area of Effect Unit

HP: High

Damage: Low

Attack Frequency: Slow

Range: Medium/Melee

Movement Speed: Medium

Special: Poison Bomb

Elite Characteristics: Breakable Helmet

The Scourge lobs poison bombs from a medium range. The explosive does not need to hit you, as it has an area of effect. Making contact with the rot fumes poisons you, causing your health to slowly drain. This can be a problem unless you have the Antidote food recipe, which negates the effects of these projectiles.

Slinger

Role: Primal Sniper

HP: Low

Damage: Low

Attack Frequency: Medium

Range: Long

Movement Speed: Slow

Special: -

Elite Characteristics: Breakable Helmet, Blow Horn (to call for reinforcements)

Slingers are equipped with a sling that they use to great effect. flinging projectiles your way from a long distance. They are often positioned in guard positions such as on top of huts or watchtowers. The damage they cause is minimal, but it does add up. The Elite version becomes a much bigger threat when given a blow horn that can be used to call in reinforcements once danger is detected. These guys should be your first priority when taking on an outpost, bonfire, or fort. If there are multiple Slingers in an area, take them out as quietly as possible to prevent being spotted by the others. When close, the Slinger strikes with the sling.

Spearman

Role: Melee/Range Hybrid

HP: Medium

Damage: Medium

Attack Frequency: Slow

Range: Melee/Medium

Movement Speed: Medium

Special: Charge with Spear

Elite Characteristics: Breakable Helmet

The Spearman can be dangerous from a short distance and up close. They often sit back and throw their spear at you, but they can charge with their weapon for a melee attack. Watch out, as they have the ability to knock you down with this ability. The elite version only differs in that it wears breakable head armor. This must be destroyed before you can kill them with a headshot—unless, of course, you have the Precision Sling skill which allows the sling to pierce headgear.

Warrior

Role: Melee Unit

HP: Medium

Damage: Low

Attack Frequency: Fast

Range: Melee

Movement Speed: Fast

Special: Throw Shard

Elite Characteristics: Breakable Helmet, Ambush

Warriors are the standard melee troops. They charge in with their clubs and start hacking away. They do throw a shard if they cannot get to you, but the cudgel is their weapon of choice. Pick them off as they approach or switch to your club and beat them down.

Dah - Udam Commander

Dah is a proud, ferocious, and sickly Udam war chief. One of the strongest fighters in the tribe, Dah commands the respect of all who follow him as he coordinates raiding parties and guards the gateway to the Udam homeland. Like all Udam, Dah fights to save his dying tribe from extinction—and he respects displays of dominance and strength above all else. He prides himself as the only Udam to have survived a duel with the tribe leader, Ull—a fight that won him great power and respect among his tribe.

Dah’s strength has waned in recent months as crippling “skull fire” fevers sap his strength. This disease is one of many that afflict the Udam, the result of generations of inbreeding. The skull fires will eventually kill Dah, but until then he is determined to fight the contemptible Wenja softbloods and the fire-wielding sun walkers, two rival tribes that stand in the way of the Udam’s survival.

Ull - Udam Leader

Ull is the leader of the Udam tribe. He commands the respect and fear of all Udam. He is a fierce brute with limbs of timber and severe fire burns across most of his body. His nose and ears have melted away, leaving him with a mottled mask. These hideous scars came from the deadly fire arrows of the Izila tribe.

He bears a heavy heart over the future of his people. It’s clear that the Udam are dying. They suffer constant sickness, many Udam die young. He doesn’t know why they are dying but he knows that rival tribes are not suffering in the same way and he wants them all wiped out. Anyone who encroaches on Udam land is an enemy who’s taking advantage of Udam weakness.

The survival of his people is foremost in his mind as he marches through Oros, desperately fighting for more plentiful lands and to earn his people a chance to recover from their hard years deep in the frozen mountains.

Ull is very primitive and really showcases the more primitive and animal aspect of human kind. Once you get to know him, you’ll realize his motivations are deeper and more interesting than what you’ll get from the beginning of the game. He is a strong antagonist.
